Mountain Wedding at Timber Moose Lodge in Heber, Utah

A mountain, a couple, and a wedding. A perfect recipe to start a marriage.

What Is Love?

You might have an answer to that question. Some might say love is love, or baby don’t hurt me. Both are fair answers. I’d like to say for myself that it’s simple and not at all. But, with Daria & Justin here I found lots of good examples during their wedding day and getting to know them of qualities to look for that describe love with a partner. I’m going to take you through some of those while telling a bit about their wedding day.

Together When You’re Apart

I’d like to say when your heart grows for someone that you’re closer no matter the distance. I love my family, and even though the distance varies between us all they are the same distance in my heart because of our love for each other. With a lot of couples, I get to see this idea in action. I’ll tell you what this means in terms of Daria & Justin.

I got to chat with the couple individually while they both prepared for the ceremony. The usual worries of a day happen to every couple. How’s my hair, will so and so be on time, is there a way to get dad to drink after the speech? All natural concerns and a couple of those for Daria & Justin. But, I found when chatting with them a relaxed and calmness when talking about the other. Their trust and love was shown. Knowing that the other has their concern taken care of. If the other was on the case they had faith in whatever it was getting done. Trust is a tool used in love and especially marriage. I think they had a good grasp on it. The other wasn’t in the room but their love for them made it feel like they were.

Being Yourself

Weddings are beautiful. The gathering of friends and family. Mixing of cultures, cliques and groups, family dynamics, etc. You’ve then realized that each of these groups and people may have just a piece of you. Your parents might have one piece of you here, friends a piece of you there, but whoever you marry will have all of you.

You can try and keep things in the closet but with trusting someone and loving them they will eventually have to come out. I found that this couple exceeded in being themselves. They’re marrying each other because they’ve seen all those pieces and happily put them together with their own and they fit.

It can be weird saying and doing things in front of people who haven’t seen a deep part of you before. Vows, speeches, or even just a simple kiss. These two didn’t have a fear though. Perfect love casts out all fear. They found someone who had taken in all the pieces and loved them. So what fear can you have then? They shared deeply, belly laughed very hard, and smiled big. Not once did I feel like I saw someone smiling for the camera. Just for the joy of being themself with someone who makes them not second guess that.

Having fun

This one is a given but still should be talked about. Everyone has their ideas on what “having fun” means. From late night parties, hiking and traveling, to sitting and watching a good show. All very different, but all very enjoyable depending on the person. But putting two people together can give “having fun” a lot of different meanings and definitions to each.

Justin, a major outdoors hiker extraordinaire. Daria… former ballet dancer. A combo that you think on paper would be a huge difference for a couple. But, the best couples really follow through on the opposites attract idea. Looking into a mirror of yourself isn’t as fun as looking into something that looks nothing like you.

During the entire wedding day I got to see how they have fun together. Said silly things to one another, made little faces that made the other smile. They sang their hearts out to the final song of the night(I have the photos to prove it). I never found that they couldn’t have fun or enjoy something together all night. Whether big or small they had fun because it was shared with the other. The best experiences are usually shared and made with someone else.

Final words

I can only say so much about love. Everyone’s experience is different. But I thoroughly enjoy getting to see the couples I work with be in love. I get to take snippets of it and send them photos of it. A major joy.

This wedding was stunning all around. A beautiful venue surrounded by a winter wonderland of snow covered trees and mountains. A deck overlooking those mountains set up with the perfect view for a ceremony. A dining area covered by intricate wood cabin like structure from the floor to ceiling with heavy amounts of natural light. All the things to make a dream wedding happen. But, I saw that as much as all of it mattered that none of it did too. What mattered most was that Daria got to marry Justin and Justin got to marry Daria. Marrying the person you have grown to love the most was most important to them overall. I was just happy to capture a couple photos of it:)
